The Albums

YUGEN was formed in 2020 through the collaboration and thirty years of combined experience of three musicians from Salento. In January 2022, the group recorded its debut album, Tears and Light, released by Dodicilune Records and distributed by I.R.D. For this work, the group draws on the experience and finesse of Valerio Daniele (guitar), Giorgio Distante (trumpet), and Francesco Massaro (electronics).

In 2026, they recorded Picture #2, released by Filibusta Records and produced by Valerio Daniele, featuring Alessandro Dell’Anna (classical guitar).

Awards

In 2026, the group won the instrumental category of the 23rd edition of the L’Artista che non c’era National Award. In 2025, they won the Jazz category of the 8th Carlo Gargioni Award and were finalists in the Teano Jazz Contest. In 2024, they were finalists in the 22nd edition of L’Artista che non c’era. In 2022, they won the 4th edition of the Forum Live Jazz festival contest.

The Music

The trio’s stylistic choice offers a colorful musical texture, within which a changing and simultaneously stable intention emerges, the ostinato being the foundation on which to paint singable melodies and captivating electronic forays.

An aesthetic quest that converges three different musical personalities into a common denominator capable of creating a completely original language, beyond classifications.

Yugen is not jazz, it is not rock and it is not electronic: Yugen is all of these at the same time.
